Ii is a shocking news that the hometown of the newly appointed inspector-general of the police, Baba Alkali, is under attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists.
Geidam, the headquarters of Geidam local government area of Yobe state is being invaded by insurgents in eight vehicles and carrying weapons, Daily Trust reports.
The newspaper reports that a resident of the town said the terrorists 'motorcade moved straight to the location of Kafela primary school as they started sporadic shooting'.
Premium Times added that its correspondent could hear sounds of heavy gunfire as he spoke on the phone with a source in the town on the development.
Though details of casualties are still sketchy now, the police spokesman Dungus Abdulkarim has confirmed the attack. He was reported to have said that an air force fighter is already in Geidam providing reinforcement.
Meanwhile, Legit,ng had reported that Bashir Magashi, the minister of defence on Thursday, April 22, told State House correspondents that Nigeria is bleeding. Magashi made this remark at the ministerial briefing organised by the Presidential Communication Team at Aso Rock Villa, Abuja The minister claimed that while insurgency in the country had reduced due to the laudable efforts of the federal government, some other worrisome issues have been on the increase. He also disclosed that the government has taken a decisive position on persons identified as enemies of the nation.
